Corporate Finance for Non-financial Executives
(11-12 October 2022)
This program will introduce participants to the key concepts of corporate finance and the tools of corporate valuation, which is essential for executives across every functional area. The aim of this program is to build a framework for understanding the impact of financing and investment decisions on the firm value. The program links strategic management decisions to their impact on value creation and shows how decision-making at firms should be guided by the creation of value. We will focus on how firms can create value with their investment decisions and financing decisions. You will learn multiple methods of corporate valuation that would help you evaluate both individual investment projects and entire firms, and identify firms’ key value drivers.

- Build a framework linking investment decisions to firm value
- Develop metrics to evaluate new investment opportunities
- Assess company value based on different valuation methods
- Appreciate how firm’s financial policy alters the investment decision making process
- Understand how key corporate restructuring events are shaped by financial decisions
Who Should Attend
Executives and managers with little or no finance background and who are responsible for strategic, operating and investment decisions that have significant firm value implications.
Program Content
Valuation:
- Analyze a company’s financial statements to assess its business and its finances
- Assess the value created by investment projects using different metrics
- Derive an appropriate cost of capital to determine firm decisions
- Assess the value of a company using multiples and discounted cash flow analysis
Financial Policy:
- Assess whether a company’s financial leverage is suitable given its business strategy
- Assess a company’s policy regarding cash reserves and dividend payments
- Understand the basics of initial public offerings, leveraged buyouts, and mergers and acquisitions
Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of participation issued by HKUST Business School.
